For this brief, I had to work collaboratively within a small
group, to produce a presentation based around J. Walter Thompson
Intelligence’s Future 100. J. Walter Thompson Intelligence is a new specialised
practice at the J. Walter Thompson Company, offering a unique blend of
research, innovation and data analytics across its
global network. Trends and
innovation are also moving at breakneck speed, powered by an engaged,
sophisticated, curious global consumer. The Future 100 takes a snapshot of
emerging trends for 2016 spanning: Culture, Tech & Innovation, Travel &
Hospitality, Brands & Marketing, Food & Drink, Beauty, Retail, Health,
Lifestyle, Luxury.
As a
group, we decide upon the “Innovation & Technology” section. In which I
focussed primarily on the “Security Within the Internet of Things”.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a global computer network attached to
many household items / appliances. We recognise the Internet of Things in many
smart appliances such as TV’s or
Fridge Freezers. IoT allows more control / functionality over these appliances, but with a greater
security risk. The problem with the Internet of Things is that it is not secure
and therefore a prime target for hackers. Over 20 Billion devices are estimated
to be connected to the IoT by 2020. Many cyber-attacks have been attempted. In October 2016, a national
cyber-attack took place which took over most of the appliances connected to the
Internet of Things. This accessed data and took control of items. Essentially the
Internet of Things can be a very dangerous platform unless it is protected
properly.
Below is my outcome for the
presentation. For this I created a slide which would aid be
to describe the Internet of Things to my audience. I also created an
illustration for visual effect whilst presenting.
When it was time to present my work, I noticed I could not access it on the university computers. This was due to the different version of Adobe InDesign that was installed in the Postgraduate Suite. Due to this I was not able to show my work however, I still managed to explain my topic to the class. This has taught me to always export my work as a PDF file, especially whilst working in a group.
